We recently updated our customer relations management system (CRM) and found some interesting trends in use of social media by photo agencies since our last big roundup six months ago.  More agencies are using it, and those already with social media have increased their usage.

Almost exclusively, photo agencies are using social media to let the world know about their successes in publications and on web sites, and also providing tasters of what is newly available.

Of the various platforms available, by far the most popular are Facebook and Twitter.  These are the two biggest of course, but they also allow for relatively easy connection with followers to help photo agencies build up a network of potential buyers to whom they can broadcast their latest offerings.

Another key benefit of social media posts is the ability to recruit photographers and other contributors on the back of perceived sales success and the general impression of being up with the play.
