Working at Picsell Media brings you into the engine room of the news, celebrity and stock image industry. Employees get to work with the biggest names in the business, in a tight-knit and supportive group, at either our offices in Auckland and London. Read more below.
All work is rostered, with shifts varying from normal business hours to 3-4 12-hour shifts per 7-day week.
Shifts are on a 7-day roster, up to 5 hours per day. Where appropriate, these may be fitted around employees’ studies or other commitments.
Available for students or recent graduates to provide work experience, with a pathway to paid employment where appropriate.
Who and What We Look For
Above all else, a great attitude and work ethic are the qualities we look for in potential employees. Whether it’s in our Auckland or London offices, everyone works as a team, pitching in to get production completed on time, and to a high standard.
With regards to tasks and skills, working at Picsell Media involves a potential mix of:
– Correcting and editing captions, keywords and metadata
– Editing, cropping, lightening and colour-correcting images
– Adding keywords, including fashion terms, editing image sets from celebrity photo and news agencies
– Meeting deadlines and coping with a fast-paced work environment
– Curating focused feeds of images, sending out sales alerts, image research or updating social media
Applicants must be “words” people, quick to learn, with impeccable spelling and grammar, and the ability to multi-task. Interest in celebrities and fashion is useful for live production, whilst strong general knowledge helps with stock image keywording.
Whilst this can be a great step towards other media jobs, jobs at Picsell Media are not generally suited to people who are primarily photographers, videographers or graphic designers. And although customer service is important, most jobs are of the backroom, support variety, rather than involving interaction with customers or the public.
For full-time positions, we usually hire graduates or school leavers with qualifications in communications, media, library, history or art history. Students studying in such areas are good candidates for part-time work or internships. Where appropriate, we arrange hours to suit study or other commitments.
